#10 — Leeds Roller Dolls
How long have you been playing derby?
I started skating with the Rainy City Roller Girls in January 2009 but transferred this summer to the Leeds Roller Dolls, so all in all I’ve been skating around in circles for just over two and a half years.
Injuries?
Unfortunately back in October 2010 I suffered a displaced fracture of the fibula, tibial fracture, a navicular shift and multiple fractures with ataler shift, all this jargon equates to what I call a pretty serious ankle break, but nothing a plate and a few pins couldn’t fix.
What’s your greatest Derby achievement to date?
My greatest Derby achievement to date has to be making Team England. Last Summer I vowed that 2011 would be the Year of the Feral, lol, and then I broke my ankle and it seemed liked it might just be the end of the road, but here I am less than a year on making plans for the Roller Derby World Cup.
2011 certainly feels like it is turning out to be the Year of the Feral!
How did you feel when you found out you made it on to Team England?
I felt sick! I just couldn’t believe it! I still can’t believe it! I got the news just as I arrived at Manchester airport, with El Visious, to fly out to Vegas for RollerCon when my BlackBerry came to life. It seemed to take forever to get to what thankfully turned out to be the good part, I was so happy I told my Pops and El straight away, and then I anxiously waited for El to get her email. She made it too. Phew!
What happened next? I checked-in then headed straight to the airport pub and ordered a glass of champagne!
Goals for the World Cup?
To work hard, play hard, build on UK Roller Derby’s recent successes, oh and…make it back alive, lol!
Thank yous?
I would just like to say a massive thank you to my amazing family for their continued support, especially my Grandad who was a great inspiration throughout my recovery after my ankle break.
Lastly, a huge thanks to my league, Leeds Roller Dolls, but also the wider derby community, namely the Wakey Wheeled Cats for their amazing support and my sponsors for the World Cup, and not forgetting Hot Wheels Roller Derby and Liverpool Roller Birds for the extra track time they’re giving me for FREE!!
You’re all unbelievably amazing and generous! Thank you!
